Our guest Lisa Beres is living her dream. She and her husband have built a business around helping others. She is a healthy home expert, published author and professional speaker. You might have seen her on TV on Rachael Ray, Dr. Oz, Today Show, Fox and Friends and many others. She’s developed a business around improving your health via and has an online program called Change Your Home, Change Your Life.
Lisa’s “aha” moment
Lisa’s aha moment was a big one. She got really sick from toxins in her newly remodeled home. She thought she was living a healthy life by eating right and exercising, but that is just one piece of the pie. Another huge piece of the pie is the environments in our homes. We spend 90% of our lives indoors, and that is contributing to our health, wellness, energy and long-term illness.
Wake up call
Lisa became a building biologist through this process. That is the study of how buildings affect your health. She realized the chemicals in her house were directly related to her health and hormones. Many people, men and women, have hormonal issues because these chemicals are hormone disruptors. By cleaning up her environment and learning, she changed her life. She now has better health and more energy than she did before.
Some people get headaches and other warning signs, but other don’t and it sneaks up on them. If you have a lowered immune system, you will notice it quicker than others. We are all being affected whether we get symptoms right away or not. Nobody is immune to toxin overload because we have polluted air, toxic water, and polluted products coming into our home in personal care and cleaning products. If you are getting symptoms, thank your body for telling you. If you aren’t, you should still listen to the experts and make some changes.
Biggest challenge starting the business
The biggest challenge Lisa and her husband had when they started their business was prioritizing and honing in on what the most important details of the business were. They never wanted to miss an opportunity, so they just said yes to everything. As a result, they bit off more than they could chew and became depleted. They got off track and lost focus on what they started and what their mission was.
Having a clear, focused business mission is important. It’s nice to have opportunities, but you shouldn’t say yes to all of them. You have to learn how to say no personally and in business.
What gets Lisa out of bed in the morning?
The number one thing that gets Lisa out of bed in the morning is the change she has personally experienced and knowing how much better her quality of life is. She loves waking up every day knowing how much better her life is through the changes she’s made, and she wants to share that with other people. So many people live miserably. They are medicated, loaded up on drugs and sedentary. You don’t have to live like that. It’s an option. You have to choose health. Yes, you have to put a little work into it but you can do it, and Lisa is living proof.
You have to become part of a community. Whatever your entrepreneurial focus is, get with like minded people. Lisa joined health-focused groups and networked with them. You need a support system, even if you are working with your spouse as Lisa is. You need a bigger support system.
Lisa joined an all women network, with people all over the world. They teach you from the beginning step by step how to start an online business today.
